Great day at work! I brought breakfast; we watched a movie, played football, talked… Neither the translator nor Jenni were there today so I got proper quality time with the boys. Due to the lack of translation everyone made an effort and I got to know them better. If there was never such service to ease our daily life I would speak Swahili much better by now. Since the beginning the boys have asked me to eat lunch with them. It’s their way of giving something back. The only thing they have to give. Well I finally took the risk and shared a full meal prepared in a huge pot that’s never quite clean, cooked in water that’s definitely not clean at the risk of missing our weekend trip to a Masai village. No worries, no stomach upsets. Perfect! Ugali, a stiff porridge like local cheap dish with beans. It wasn’t that bad although after the worst hunger passed it started to be harder and harder to get down. Half way through I gave up and offered the rest to share as they do as well. Happily they split my leftovers between the ones not quite satisfied with their portion. Anoldi took my spoon which is one of three they have to use. The rest eat with their hands. Mahabusu is no place to sweat the small stuff. I ended up staying two hours later than normal and made my way towards the Dala stop in an autumn like rainfall of big drops urging the locals under porches.
